On Wednesday, Palestinians, Middle Eastern leaders, and administrations elsewhere rebuffed President Donald Trump’s impact proposal to annex the Gaza Strip and absorb its citizens.
Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were holding a press conference at the White House for deals that included visible gasps.
Trump claimed in a plan that lacked information on how he would evict more than two million Palestinians from Gaza and how he would reestablish it commercially by removing unexploded bombs and rubble and redeveloping the area.
” We did do a career with the Gaza Strip and the US will take control of it.” We’ll individual it”, he said.
He said there was help from the “highest management” in the Middle East for his thought, but hours after, the leaders of Hamas, the Palestinian power, Egypt, Turkey, China, Britain, France and Germany hit again.
Netanyahu, but, welcomed the idea, saying it was” change story” and was for “paying interest to”.
Suggesting “long-term rights” by the United States, Trump said his plan may make it” the Riviera of the Middle East. This could be something that could be so wonderful”.
Hamas, which seized ultimate control of Gaza in 2007, rejected the proposal, branding it a “racist” thought.
In a speech, the team said Trump’s request to “occupy” the place was “aggressive to our people and cause, didn’t provide stability in the region and will only set oil on the fireplace”.
Hamas’s October 2023 assault on Israel sparked a 15-month conflict, and Trump has frequently claimed credit for securing a peace that came into force next month. A large portion of Gaza was levelled in the conflict.
‘ Terrible life’
While Netanyahu’s attend to the White House was billed to focus on a next step of the ceasefire, it quickly turned into the discovery of a plan that would, if implemented, totally change the Middle East.
Trump, who likewise floated travelling to Gaza, appeared to suggest it would not be rebuilt for Palestinians.
He said,” It shouldn’t go through a process of reconstruction and occupation by the same people who have… lived there, died there, and lived a miserable existence there.”
Arab leader Mahmud Abbas rejected the proposal, saying that “legitimate Arab privileges are not negotiable” and that it would entail a” major violation” of international law.
Trump has made the suggestion that Palestinians may leave Gaza for good. He has mentioned Egypt and Jordan as potential spots in recent days, but residents of the area have indicated that they want to be.
” Trump thinks Gaza is a pile of bullshit completely not”, said 34-year-old Hatem Azzam, a citizen of the country.
Any attempts to force Palestinians out of Gaza may bring back shivers for them from the Arab world’s” Nakba” or the catastrophic mass movement of Palestinians since Israel’s founding in 1948.
Trump was ambiguous about how to go about implementing a takeover, but he did say that “if needed,” US boots would be needed on the ground in one of the most tense locations on earth.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty demanded on Wednesday that the country be immediately rebuilt “without the Palestinians leaving,” while Jordan and Egypt have both rejected any relocation from Gaza.
” Winning the war,”
In Washington, however, Netanyahu hailed Trump as Israel’s “greatest buddy” and praised his “willingness to think outside the box”.
The Israeli prime minister did not act out a profit to warfare with Hamas, or with its regional allies, including Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
Netanyahu vowed to win the war, saying,” We will end the war by winning it,” and he also made a pledge to secure the release of all victims held by Hamas.
He did express assurance that a resolution to normalize relationships with local foe Saudi Arabia was “going to arise.”
However, Saudi Arabia said it would certainly formalize relations with Israel unless a Arab position is established after Trump floated his request.
The foreign government stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia “likewise reaffirms its unwavering rejection of any copyright on the legitimate rights of the Israeli people, whether it is as a result of Jewish settlement policies, area conquest, or attempts to drive the Arab people out of their land.”
Hakan Fidan, the head of Turkish foreign affairs, rebuffed the statement, saying neither the region nor the world can accept relocating Palestinians.
Palestinians should be able to “live and prosper” in Gaza and the West Bank, according to British foreign secretary David Lammy, while France and the UK both stressed that” control by a third state” is unacceptable.
Gaza “belongs to the Palestinians,” according to German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock, while Lin Jian, a spokesman for the Chinese government, said:” We oppose the forced transfer of the residents of Gaza.
The Gaza war began when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 1, 210 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures.
Israel’s retaliatory response has killed at least 47, 518 people in Gaza, the majority civilians, according to the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry. The figures are reliable, according to the UN.
