US President Donald Trump has suggested that the country “take over” and “own” Gaza, arguing that the area needs to be completely rebuilt and transformed into a hotspot for financial growth.
Trump suggested that while the US leads restoration work, Palestinians in Gaza may be completely resettled in neighboring Arab nations at a White House press event alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
His notes have evidently stunned observers in the US and worldwide. Trump described Gaza as a “demolition page” that should be cleared and redeveloped, adding that he sees a “long-term rights place” for the US in the area.
He even did not rule out deploying American troops “if important” to maintain this perspective.
International condemnation and strong reactions
Trump’s request has drawn a powerful reaction from social officials, human rights groups, and advocacy organizations global, who have denounced it as a violation of international law and an attempt at ethnic cleansing.
American Prime Minister Anthony Albanese
:” Australia’s location is the same as it was this night, as it was last year. The American government supports a two-state solution on a bipartisan basis.
Saudi Arabia:
Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry criticized “any copyright on the legitimate rights of the Israeli people, whether it be through Jewish policies, property annexation, or attempts to alienate the Arab people from their land.”
Chris Murphy, a Republican US lawmaker,
:” He’s completely lost it. Taus of US soldiers may be killed in a US invasion of Gaza, and there would be years of Middle Eastern hostilities. It’s like a poor, tired joke”.
Political official Jake Auchincloss
: Called the plan “reckless and unreasonable”, warning that it could “scuttle Phase 2 of the peace between Israel and Hamas”. He also added:” We have to glance at Trump’s intentions. As usually, when Trump proposes a plan product, there is a cooking, self-serving relationship”. Referring to Trump and Jared Kushner, he said:” They want to turn this into resorts”.
Democratic US Senator Chris Van Hollen
:” Trump’s proposal to push 2 million Palestinians out of Gaza and take’ ownership’ by force, if necessary, is simply ethnic cleansing by another name. Our Arab partners in the region will be undermined by this declaration, which also provides ammunition for Iran and other adversaries. It defies the decades of bipartisan support for a two-state solution in America. Congress must halt this risky and careless scheme.
Council on Amerian-Islamic Relations ( CAIR )
:” Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people, not the United States, and President Trump’s call to expel Palestinians from their land is an absolute non-starter”. The group further warned that “if the Palestinian people were ever somehow forcibly expelled from Gaza, this crime against humanity would cause widespread conflict, put the nail in the coffin of international law, and destroy what remains of our nation’s standing and reputation.”
Arab American Institute
” If the president was truly committed to bringing an era of peace to the Middle East, he would support self-determination for the Palestinian people on their historic soil and in accordance with international law, and not to discuss illegal forced transfer.”
PaulO’Brien, executive director, Amnesty International USA
” Selling out every Palestinian from Gaza amounts to destroying them as a people,” the statement read. Gaza is their home. The government of Israel has been killing civilians by the thousands, frequently using US bombs, as a result of Gaza’s death and destruction.
Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior Hamas official,
” The call to leave Gaza is an expulsion from their land,” the statement reads. Because the people of Gaza won’t allow such plans to pass, we believe they are a recipe for chaos and tension in the area.
Jon Alterman, middle east programme head, Washington’s Center for Strategic and International Studies
” Many Gazans descended from Palestinians who fled parts of contemporary Israel and were never able to go back to their former homes. Many people would be willing to leave even a Gaza that has been destroyed, in my opinion.
Trump’s foreign policy proposal comes in addition to his earlier suggestions for establishing Panama Canal control and purchasing Greenland.
But can the US execute Trump’s plan?
Trump’s proposal to take over Gaza faces major legal, political, and logistical obstacles. The forced transfer of a population is prohibited under international law, and it may be categorized as ethnic cleansing. The Geneva Conventions only permit forced evacuations under specific circumstances, such as when civilians are being protected from active combat zones.
However, mass expulsion for permanent resettlement is illegal.
Arab leaders, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, have outright rejected the plan, warning that it could destabilize the region and expand the conflict. The logistics of relocating 2 million Palestinians, securing funding, and deploying thousands of US troops to enforce control make the plan highly impractical. Even Trump’s own administration has not provided a simple way to carry out such a plan.
In the end, experts contend that this is a illogical or feasible strategy and that its application would result in severe international outcry and persistent instability.
