In her first time in charge, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu received a date to speak before a Congressional oversight committee looking into sanctuary city policies, as well as the Department of Justice’s funding for sanctuary cities.
Bondi, who was approved as AG on Tuesday night, issued a day-one letter about shelter areas, as , President Trump ramps up his unlawful immigration assault.
” … The Department of Justice will ensure that, steady with law,’ temple states’ do never receive access to Federal money from the Department”, reads Bondi’s letter.
The letter later states that” Sanctuary areas should not be able to get federal grants administered by the Department of Justice.”
Boston is a sanctuary area under the Trust Act, a 2014 native law that forbids city police and other agencies from cooperating with ICE and governmental agencies on legal immigration subpoenas.
According to the letter, the DOJ intends to “pursue police actions” against cities that interfere with federal immigration assault efforts.
In Bondi’s note, it is stated that “public protection and national security are threatened by national efforts to enforce immigration law.” ” State and local states must comply with appropriate immigration-related national laws”.
According to Bondi’s letter, the DOJ won’t start giving money until the company has finished conducting a review.
The authorities will even “terminate any contracts that are in violation of law or are the cause of spend, fraud, or abuse”, the letter reads.
However, the mind of the Republican-led House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform announced when , Wu and another sanctuary cities ‘ leaders , may be getting baked by Congressmembers.
Wu and the politicians of Chicago, Denver, and New York City have confirmed that they will speak at a council reading on March 5,  , Congressman James Comer posted.
Player continued,” Sanctuary mayors have given legal illegal aliens precedence over the American people.” By allowing dangerous legal illegal aliens up onto the streets, they owe Americans an explanation for their guidelines, which violate federal immigration laws and threaten public safety. Over to numerous preventable tragedies have been caused by these careless actions in democratic-run cities and states across the country.
The congressman wrote that” they likewise put ICE agents at risk because they are forced to carry out more challenging enforcement actions in places where they don’t cooperate with federal immigration authorities.” We will ask these leaders for answers and review measures taken to enforce federal immigration laws.
Yang stated earlier this week that she had accepted the committee’s invitation to give testimony in Washington, D.C.
I’ve accepted the Committee’s offer to promote our efforts to make Boston the safest big city in the world, Wu said in a statement on Wednesday evening. Every morning, the Boston Police Department collaborates with community organizations and all degrees of law enforcement to safeguard our area and our citizens, and I look forward to highlighting their efforts and accomplishments.
” I thank Congresswoman Pressley and Congressman Lynch, who serve on the council, and the whole Massachusetts federal group, for their relationship in fighting for people in Boston and across the Commonwealth”, the governor added.
The council was immediately calling for a Feb. 11 reading time, but Wu asked for more time as she recovers from , giving birth to her second child , on Jan. 13.
