ABU DHABI: The ministry of economy launched a new roadmap for “green intellectual property ( IP )” designed to foster innovation, accelerate technology localisation, and develop new projects in the new economy, environmental sustainability, and circular economy.
The UAE’s Internet surroundings will become more competitive and prosper as a result of the three-month blueprint, which does support the country’s commitment to a circular economy.
The UAE’s round market council president, Abdulla al Touq Al Marri, said in this regard:” Thanks to the forward-looking vision of its clever leadership, the UAE has succeeded in adopting subjective initiatives and projects for the intellectual property sector, positioning it as one of the key pillars for building a solid and sustainable national economy.
Al Marri added that the blueprint is a new step in a campaign to raise awareness of the value of adopting efficient technology and innovation to provide better services and products to the community and to improve the UAE’s appeal to natural and lasting innovations.
These efforts help strengthen the country’s place among the most modern countries worldwide, in line with the’ We the UAE 2031 ‘ vision.
He continued,” This month’s technology month coincides with the launch of the new strategy for green IP.” To achieve all the goals of this roadmap, we will work with local economic partners in the nation and the World Intellectual Property Organization to provide more enabling factors and opportunities to inspire inventors and creators to create lasting innovations and projects in pressing economic sectors and sectors.
A media briefing was held at the government of economy’s Dubai headquarters to clarify the goals of the new green IP roadmap and its crucial contribution to national efforts to advance innovations in the UAE’s green economy sectors.
Conservation and environmental protection have always been a key component of the UAE’s historical fabric throughout its history, according to Abdulla Ahmed Al Saleh, the ministry of economy’s secretary. The advancement of the country has been based on conservation rules and principles, which have also strengthened its regional and global management in favor of eco-friendly initiatives and solutions.
According to him, the ministry of economy will continue to support national projects that promote sustainability across different financial sectors, in line with the UAE’s desire to create a well-balanced and sustainable economy that safeguards natural resources for generations to come.
In his talk at the treatment, he said”, The new roadmap for natural IP aims to promote the adoption of leading online solutions and innovative technology by individuals, organisations, and companies to make green products and services that contribute to environmental conservation. In order to incorporate IP into green innovations and safeguard the rights of eco-friendly projects and innovations, we are eager to build new partnerships with the education and research centers in the wake of this blueprint.
The undersecretary continued,” This roadmap plays a vital role in fostering innovation and creativity in sustainable sectors, bolstering the UAE’s competitiveness and elevating its standing in key global indicators, particularly in the global innovation index ( GII ), where the UAE consistently maintains its regional and international prominence year after year.
Additionally, he cited the ministry’s top goals for the new roadmap, including the introduction of a program that will speed up the register of inventions related to sustainable systems and eco-friendly innovations. The goal is to increase the number of patent filings for sustainable and environmentally friendly improvements to 8 % of the country’s total number.
Additionally, it will strengthen the lawful frameworks for protecting environmental sustainability patents, especially given the country’s continued rise in the number of applications for patents, which increased to nearly 3, 622 in 2024.
Al Saleh praised the UAE’s efforts in creating a powerful and aggressive legislative framework to encourage the expansion of this vital sector. The enforcement of laws protecting commercial property rights, trademarks, copyrights, and neighboring rights is a part of this platform.
The UAE is currently one of the top nations in the world for IP and innovation, and it is the first country to place first in the region in the global innovation index ( GII ) 2024.
