White House officials did not answer queries about any sort of timeframe for the money review or how it specifically differs from the wait and examine Trump ordered on all federal grants.
” The United States Government has provided significant taxpayer dollars to Nongovernmental Organizations ( NGOs ), many of which are engaged in actions that actively undermine the security, prosperity, and safety of the American people”, Trump’s memo reads. ” It is the policy of my Administration to stop funding NGOs that undermine the national interest”.
The memo does not specifically outline which NGOs will be affected by the pause, or if any will receive exemptions. The State Department estimates that some 1.5 million groups are currently operating in the United States.

Trump had previously ordered a 90-day freeze on all foreign spending and started a domestic firestorm last week by ordering an immediate pause and review of discretionary grant programs administered by the federal government.  ,
Trump’s grant directive set a Feb. 10 date for departments to submit reports to the Office of Management and Budget, which will then provide recommendations to the president on how allocations align, or don’t, with Trump’s wider agenda and efforts to shrink the federal budget.
