A bill was introduced in the US to outlaw the use of DeepSeek, a Taiwanese artificial intelligence service, on government equipment, alleging that it has “direct ties” to the Chinese government.
In response to critical data security and national security threats, Democrat Representative Josh Gottheimer from New Jersey and Republican Representative Darin LaHood from Illinois presented this bill.
The politicians added that the AI design poses an “alarming danger to US national protection” as a “alarming threat to US national safety.”
This action came in response to a report released on Wednesday by US security agency Feroot Security, which claimed DeepSeek contains code that could send user information to China Mobile, a state-owned telecommunications company.
DeepSeek, a Taiwanese business, rocked the AI industry past month with the launch of its low-cost, high-quality robot, challenging America’s supremacy in the competition for AI growth.
” The Chinese Communist Party has made it abundantly clear that it will utilize any device at its leisure to destroy our national security, spew dangerous propaganda, and gather information on Americans”, Gottheimer said in a speech.
LaHood likewise called DeepSeek a “CCP-affiliated business” and insisted that” under no circumstances” should it be allowed to access sensitive state or private information.
After a files guardian inquired about how DeepSeek handled consumer information, North Korean ministries and police departments made another announcement to LaHoodblock DeepSeek from government systems.
According to safety agency recommendations, Australia has already outlaw DeepSeek from all government computers, and France and Italy have also had concerns about its data practices.
However, Chinese-owned video-sharing game TikTok is also undergoing a distinct legal battle in the US, where lawmakers have ordered its parent company, ByteDance, to sell its American operations or risk a global ban.
