Trump’s past with the Kennedy Centre
Trump did not attend the Kennedy Center Honors during his first term, unlike previous president, after some winners criticized him.
The shift to reform the committee aligns with Trump’s broader efforts to alter government institutions in his second term, including melting investing, dismantling federal agencies, and ending variety, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
A new precedent is established by Trump’s plan to take over the Kennedy Center’s board. The centre’s board typically operates with bipartisan cooperation, and members are appointed to six-year terms, meaning they are not easily removed.
The future direction of the Kennedy Center is uncertain as more board members are now receiving termination notices.
