According to Reuters, President Trump is reportedly preparing to appoint Elon Musk as head of the Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ) to investigate allegations of fraud and abuse at the Pentagon. Trump stated that he anticipates that the department, which has a budget of$ 1 trillion per year, will have “hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud and abuse.”
According to Reuters, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz is friendly of the effort to clean up the Pentagon’s investing, describing the office as “full of superfluous bloat”.
In an interview on NBC’s ‘ Meet the Press,’ Waltz said,” All there seems to cost very much, take too long and give too little to the military …”, adding,” We do have business leaders to go in there and positively revolution the Pentagon’s consolidation process”.
Of special interest, Waltz said, may be spending on shipping, which he says is” an overall mess”.
Waltz is not the only one to criticize the office for “waste and inefficiency,” as have other departmental officials who have also raised issues.
However, some of the effort’s critics question Musk’s authority to oversee an assessment of government spending that is carried out with tax funds. Some claim that doing so “rides exposing classified details” and could be illegal because national authorities using American tax dollars are being held responsible for possible scams without” congressal approval”
However, some who support the DOGE’s initiative have suggested that the only ones who may object to it would be those who have benefited the most from the fraud.
The DOGE’s steps, which began soon upon Trump taking company, have raised both praise and indignation across the country. The DOGE team’s investigation into the U.S. Agency for International Development ( USAID ) talk last week came under scrutiny as they discovered that American taxpayers were funding what some called absurd initiatives like the distribution of a comic book and LGBT activism in foreign countries. Although real life-saving work undertaken by USAID were never paused, there was still an outcry over the review of the company’s income.
President Trump mentioned in an interview with Fox News ‘ Bret Baier on Sunday night that he was likely to take Musk’s DOG.
