President Donald Trump threatened Mexico with tariffs less than a week ago unless it intensified its efforts to stop morphine trafficking along the borders. In response to this warning, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to increase support in trade for Trump to postpone the taxes for 30 days.  ,
As part of the deal, Sheinbaum deployed 10, 000 forces to strengthen border protection as part of the region’s Operation Northern Border. Although it has only been a few days, the findings so far have been good.
Four days after its execution, authorities arrested 139 citizens and seized over eight pounds of morphine, according to reports. Lots of firearms and various other medications were also seized as part of the procedure, including cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and meth, through police activities carried out in Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, and Baja, California. Furthermore, Mexican officials took hands of 16 components and over 100 cars.  ,
Although the initial outcomes have so far proved beneficial, Trump’s agreement with Sheinbaum has some negative points. Some skeptics of the arrangement think the decision will have some positive outcomes, with some claiming that the deployment of troops was more symbolic than anything.  ,

” It’s a lot of shock and awe, but very little policy”, Arturo Sarukhan, former Mexican ambassador to the United States, told the New York Times. He claimed that the new approach to preventing fentanyl trafficking might be useless.
” It’s Whac-a-Mole”, said Sarukhan. ” Most of the morphine goes through legitimate points of entry into the U. S., no between them, and that’s where most forces may be deployed: at unlawful points of entry”.
