On Tuesday night, a DHS spokesperson told the Washington Examiner that the national division was leaving four federal employees because they had shopped around the government to pay out tens of millions of dollars to New York City, where thousands were spent on the cover of illegal immigrants in opulent hotels in Manhattan.
FEMA is terminating the work of four people who allegedly evaded government orders to pay migrants luxury hotels in New York City, according to a declaration from McLaughlin. ” Firings include FEMA’s Chief Financial Officer, two program researchers, and a grant specialist.
” Under President Trump and Secretary Noem’s management, DHS did not sit idly and allow heavy position activists to undermine the will and health of the British folks,” McLaughlin continued.
The terminations come a day after Elon Musk ‘s , Department of Government Efficiency , alleged that the , Biden administration  , dispatched$ 59 million this past week to reimburse New York City for the massive amount of money it spent housing illegal immigrants who traveled to the sanctuary city during the Biden administration.
In a social media post, Musk wrote,” The @DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent$ 59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal immigrants.” Sending this amount of money was in gross violation of the law and was in direct contravention of the President’s executive order. Instead of being used for American disaster relief, those funds are being used to build expensive hotels for illegals! Today, a clawback demand will be made to recover those funds.
McLaughlin warned people on Monday that anyone who made the payment should anticipate being fired.
Liz Garcia, New York City’s deputy press secretary, asserted in an email on Monday evening that the city was in good standing and did not request emergency funding from FEMA to help pay for the costs of care for the 223,000 illegal immigrants who had passed through its halls.
The city maintained that during the previous administration, Congress authorized the funding and that the majority of the residents were families. According to New York City, FEMA gave these non-disaster relief funds to the city last year in April 2024.
Of the$ 59.3 million that the city received,$ 19 million was for direct hotel costs, while the balances were for services provided, such as food and congregate shelters and services.
” We have continued to receive , previously allocated reimbursements through the past week. We will discuss this matter directly with federal officials,” Garcia said Monday.
After taking office, President Donald Trump , signed , an executive order that established a council to determine whether FEMA should be eliminated, given Trump’s” serious concerns of political bias “within the agency. The Trump administration has also sought to pause federal grant funding broadly, but it has been , halted , in courts.
