How quickly employees you retire is limited by an old Pennsylvania stone mine that houses all government employee documents. Elon Musk wants to alter that.
Musk explained how the plant merely allows 10, 000 people to leave each month in a speech to President Donald Trump on Tuesday because the mechanical work process is taking so long.
He stated that his goal is to speed up the retirement process so that national employees can retire sooner, which may help DOGE achieve its goal of reducing the national workforce.
Musk claimed that all pension forms are manually written before entering a mineshaft floor. The federal government’s “minimum” elevator’s speed is the limiting factor, he said, and the elevator occasionally breaks down and no one can leave. ” Doesn’t that noise outrageous”?
The Tesla CEO said,” You can do virtually anything else and you may make the goods and services of the United States work in a more effective way.”
Following the comments made by the DOGE leader, the DOGE X account provided additional information about the me.

The plant, which holds people in the administration’s Office of Personnel Management, has been trying to improve its approach for decades without victory. Since at least 1981, the government has attempted to simplify the mine’s operation.
There has been a total of at least$ 100 million spent on the effort to automate the work there. The lengthy filing period also slows down the rate at which employees may receive their complete retirement benefits.
The Washington Post reported from inside the plant in 2014 the five-step approach for a farmer’s retirement documents to be completely processed. A contractor must first file their pension documents, which will be delivered to the service. A contractor must match the document up to another papers records or scan them into a modern database once it arrives.
They must file everything, and they must obtain missing paperwork from various governmental agencies. Another individual reviews the document individually and then converts it into a digital file. The procedure involved, on average, took at least 61 time, which is the same amount of time as it took in 1977.

The White House and the OPM contacted The Washington Examiner for comment on the plant, but they did not receive a response.
