Mitch McConnell, a former Senate Republican president, was the only Republican to oppose Tulsi Gabbard‘s validation as director of national intelligence, despite his “no” vote, which was cast in a 52-48 vote, having already confirmed her. All 47 Democrats voted against Gabbard.
McConnell claimed that he did not support Gabbard because he was upset that Gabbard had refused to brand Edward Snowden as a thief. Chuck Schumer, the leader of the Senate Democratic Party, pleaded with the senators to dismiss Gabbard because she lacked the intelligence officials ‘ wisdom and credentials to lead the operation.
