Tulsi Gabbard, the 14th person chosen by US President Donald Trump, was named director of national intelligence on Tuesday ( US time ).
After the assurance, Tesla CEO Elon Musk congratulated her.
Senator Mitch McConnell from Kentucky, who had formerly led the Democratic party, became the only Republican to cast a ballot in favor of Gabbard’s session as the Office of National Intelligence’s national director. He expressed concern about her “unnecessary chance” from her earlier statements and actions.
” In my judgment, Tulsi Gabbard failed to demonstrate that she is prepared to assume this great national trust”, McConnell said in a speech.
In explaining his opposition, he pointed to her opportunities regarding Putin, China, and Edward Snowden, the previous government company who disclosed classified National information.
The director of national intelligence should not have to worry about the President’s intelligence assessments having a record of disturbing errors in judgment, he said.
Gabbard, a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard with two installations in the Middle East, is running for president in 2020. Despite her military service, she has not been a leader in any government organizations and lacks proper cleverness credentials.
Gabbard’s past support for Snowden, a former NSA company who sought shelter in Russia after disclosing secrets about US security, was subject of attention during her Senate reading. She acknowledged that Edward Snowden broke the law, claiming that he had done so despite making public what she thought were illegal programs.
Her 2017 conference with Assad proved controversial at the receiving. Reviewers accused her of validating a president’s power, especially when she expressed hesitation about Assad’s reported chemical weapons use. Following a civil war in which important allegations of chemical warfare were prevalent, Assad’s recent removal came.
Her position on Ukraine has a line with the stories used by Russia to justify their conquest. Additionally, she has opposed Section 702, a vital US surveillance initiative that targets criminal communications from abroad.
After initially hesitant Democratic senators, Gabbard was elected after she made a commitment to putting the company’s two most important responsibilities, managing federal intelligence operations and acting as the president’s principal intelligence counsel, before moving on.
