A bomb attack at a table in Grenoble, France, left 12 individuals injured on Wednesday nights. Officials are still looking into a possible connection between organized crime and the believe, who is still at large.
The incident took place in the Olympic Village village, built for the 1968 Winter Olympics, when a person entered the packed table, threw a bomb, and fled without saying a word.
A man came in and threw a bomb, apparently without saying a word, and ran ahead according to counsel François Touret-de-Courcy at the field.
Initial reports indicated two people had suffered serious injuries, but native Isère national Catherine Séguin later confirmed that six had been added.
While the cause remains unclear, researchers do not consider the harm was an act of terrorism. ” There’s nothing to make us think it’s linked to terrorism”, said Touret-de-Courcy, describing it as an “act of extreme violence” that could be linked to a” settling of scores”.
Magistrate Christophe Barret noted that some testimonies reported the intruder carrying an assault rifle similar to the Kalashnikov, even though it was not used during the invasion.
Eric Piolle, president of Grenoble, vehemently denounced the assault. He wrote on X,” I condemn in the strongest terms this unlawful action of extraordinary murder,” and he also thanked crisis responders for their prompt action.
The table is a popular gathering spot for both locals and visitors, particularly during soccer games, according to deputy president Chloé Pantel, who told AFP.
On Thursday night, French health minister Yannick Neuder is scheduled to meet with patients and health workers at Grenoble University Hospital. On Friday, Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau will also be in the area to discuss continuing health issues.
Officials are now looking into whether the attack involved drug smuggling or some other criminal activity.
