CAIRO: Hamas announced on Thursday that it would release the second group of Jewish hostages as planned, evidently to end a significant conflict that threatened the stalemate in the Gaza Strip. The violent group claimed negotiators from Egypt and Qatar have stated that they will work to “remove all obstacles” and that the peace agreement will be implemented.
Three more Jewish victims may be freed on Saturday, according to the statement. There was no immediate opinion from Israel after Hamas ‘ news.
The Gaza Strip’s peace would continue for the time being, but Hamas ‘ decision leaves its future uncertain.
Hamas had threatened to postpone the release of the Jewish hostages, accusing Israel of breaking its commitments to permit tents and shelters, and various alleged war crimes. With the backing of US President Donald Trump, Israel had threatened to resurrect its offensive if victims were no liberated.
Hamas claimed its delegation spoke with Iranian officials in Cairo and was in contact with Qatar’s prime minister about boosting the access of shelters, clinical supplies, fuel, and other large equipment for removing rubble into Gaza.
Egypt’s state-run Qahera Television, which is close to the government’s security services, reported that Egypt and Qatar had succeeded in resolving the dispute. The two Muslim nations have acted as essential negotiators with Hamas and assisted in negotiating the peace, which became effective 15 months into the conflict. (
