Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., may be nearing the end of his social job, but that doesn’t mean he’s done piercing Republican voters in the back.
The original Senate GOP leader has cast ballots against a number of President Donald Trump’s well-known government nominees in recent days.
On Wednesday, McConnell was the hapless Republican to part with Senate Democrats in opposing Tulsi Gabbard’s assurance as director of National Intelligence. ( Gabbard has notably criticized America’s failed foreign interventionism, which is a markedly different position from McConnell’s unhysterical desire to engulf the United States in forever wars )
The senior senator from Kentucky joined Democrats in opposing Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s election for the position of head of the Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday. Last month, he also cast a ballot against Pete Hegseth’s validation as security secretary.
If any GOP senator from a so-called “red state” took these actions, they would be viewed as spectacular. However, for McConnell, disregarding the desires of his supporters is just another day that begins in “-y.”
A Record of Betrayal
The 82-year-old lawmaker has frequently prioritized his own particular interests and petty social conflicts over the requirements of those who elected him throughout his more than 40-year occupation in Washington, D.C. He has gone above and beyond to press forward “negotiated” regulations that frequently advances Democrat interests and hangs conservatives in the wind. He has not been content with simply defying his voters.
McConnell, the then-Senate minority leader, was key in helping Senate Democrats pass a dramatic gun control package in Summer 2022. As my partner Jordan Boyd reported, the costs included “vague speech” about “dating partners” and , red symbol laws,” which allow law enforcement to temporarily remove guns from someone the government deems a threat to the public or themselves” and is “be easily exploited by political bureaucrats”.
In the same year, he also supported Biden’s interests, including the CHIPS Act and a$ 1.5 trillion federal infrastructure package.
McConnell’s apparent disregard for the interests of his constituents was also evident during the legislative session last year, during which the Kentucky Republican supported several excessive spending bills that helped raise the nation’s debt. Additionally, he objected to a change to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act ( FISA ), which was used by intelligence agencies to spy on Americans and monitor Trump’s 2016 campaign.
Even recall that it was McConnell who, alongside Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., helped spear the legendary 2024 “bipartisan” border act, which sought to properly define the Biden administration’s border invasion into federal law. The legislation also designated$ 60 billion for Ukraine.
Without any discernible plan or thought about how doing so would affect American taxpayers, McConnell has been a major proponent of dumping unlimited American money into Kyiv. In reference to Ukraine and its conflict with Russia. When he’s not accusing” America First” Republicans wary of getting bogged down in another aimless foreign conflict of “flirt]ing ] with isolation]ism ] and decline”, the Kentucky senator is busy insulting their intelligence for opposing his interventionist stance.
For instance, McConnell said that those opposed to his international agenda have” the dimmest and most shortsighted views of our obligations,” which meant a statement that “has no place in the United States Senate” was made last year to Punchbowl News.

This exhaustive list doesn’t even include McConnell’s efforts to tank Trump-endorsed GOP Senate candidates in the 2022 midterms, attacking his Republican colleague for protesting the Pentagon’s unlawful abortion policy, or issuing remarks that give credence to Democrats ‘ dishonest talking points.
Unfit for Office
There is too many of McConnell’s numerous betrayals to fit into one article, and that is where the main issue is.
McConnell has made it abundantly clear that his top priority as a senator is to advance his own interests. He is unconcerned with the Kentuckians who have given him the opportunity to serve in Congress for four decades, or with the tens of millions of other Americans who regularly rely on his vote to support conservative priorities.
Try as he may to portray himself as a dignified , statesman, McConnell’s gamesmanship isn’t fooling anyone. The senior senator from Kentucky is portrayed by the majority of Americans as a crude, bitter establishment crony who is determined to stifle Trump and the GOP from the outside.  ,
Combined with his apparent , mental , and , physical inability to perform the duties tasked to him by the people of Kentucky, McConnell’s record and destructive antics make him unworthy of holding public office. He clearly lacks the capacity and unwillingness to carry out his duties in a way that is in line with conservative voters ‘ desires.
