The Washington Examiner  has reported from the border dozens of times since 2018, but for the first time in its history, its workers did not observe a second expat attempt to cross the Rio Grande while prepping for a late-night ride-along with Border Patrol.
Since President Donald Trump took office in January, the number of illegal immigrant detention across the whole southern border has fallen to historically low rates.
The Rio Grande sat silent even in the shadow of the dark, a period generally used to be the most popular time for Mexican cartels to escort refugees across the river.
