Pope Leo XIII’s letter to American bishops in 1899 publicly and formally condemned the heresy of Americanism. This letter was the last to elicit controversy. This is the heresy that makes the claim that the faithful can choose their own doctrine and that the British church could almost easily get along in a Christian nation by downplaying ideological differences. Alas, that heresy has not really died.

Pope Francis has now sent a letter to American bishops decrying the idea of size deportation. Most people are putting more emotion than critical thought and meditation into the details of the priest’s email, given that NPR is singing the praises of the bishop and some on the proper are crying foul. It is a little letter, which you can study in full around. Additionally, author Russell Shaw has more information about Americanism around.  ,
To sum up the latest pope’s letter in a swift soundbite, mass deportation is unrestrained, hurting both the poor and the great, and so wrong. On the other hand, no nation is required to have available edges. Which nations have a greater obligation to assist immigrants from developing nations? Officials guided by the case of Christ’s life and the concept of charity must decide where the legislation vevers between mass imprisonment and open borders.
Pope Leo XIII wrote in his essay Immortale Dei that” God has divided the government of the human race between the religious and civic powers, the former having jurisdiction over things divine and the latter having jurisdiction over things individual.” Each has its own unique purpose and is bound by rules that are precisely set and defined in accordance with its unique characteristics and unique goal. There is therefore, as it were a circumscribed sphere in which each exercises its functions , jure propiro]by one’s own right ]” . ,

In other words, the church and the state must collaborate for the typical great, each in their particular fields of expertise.
So the pope has established some spiritual guidelines that the state can use to conduct itself socially. Officials may use compassion to formulate policies within those parameters. The problem’s root is Alejandro Mayorkas ‘ transition from being a committee member of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, an open-borders-leaning Charity to becoming the largest open-border NGO in the world.  ,
Public policy has responded to that great of the pendulum in the same way and for the same reason. Or has it? I believe that the bishop’s advisors on this were tone-deaf to Trump and very quickly. Mass deportations are never going to occur, and all, including Trump, knows it. If there are 18 to 25 million laborers and unauthorized, as some say, and if 8, 000 are being deported a year, well, you do the algebra over four years.  ,
Trump is using this threat to a ) stop the border stampede and b ) encourage self-deportation. Unfortunately, it is difficult for the bishop to get much of a hearing now when the foot is on the other foot because the Biden administration has not spoken out against the weaponization of the frontier.  ,

When Archbishop Thomas Wenski of Miami said,” While the ebb and flow of refugees and asylum applicants has been a continuous for years, the apparent incompetence of the Biden administration apparently precipitated an unprecedented rise in irregular movement,” he said. He is political in calling it ineptness. It was a strong assault on the nation’s security. New York City alone has been making$ 7 billion annually to provide for new immigrants.
Wenski cited Vice President Vance for his “harsh and intemperate words” regarding the” U.S. bishops ‘ conference.” Fair much. This problem is high on the list. We have always advocated for “open borders,” “bad players should be admitted senselessly,” or “freedom of any kind become free to roam our streets and endanger our people,” said Wisni. In other words, border’ walls ‘ should also have’ doors ‘ that would permit the flow of legal immigrants”.

Perhaps the pope was unaware that jumping in after the horses had left the barn would come across as too little, too late, or partisan. He made a clear statement in his pontificate that people should stop viewing the church as a glorified NGO. Therefore, the document should serve as a guideline for moral principles that should be incorporated into public policy rather than as an NGO lobbying effort or in a political context.  ,  ,

My frustration is partly due to the recognition that many of these immigrants are from nations where the church has a significant presence, according to a friend of mine. Where is the letter to bishops in those nations encouraging them to work harder to ameliorate the conditions that cause migration?  ,
