Donald Trump, the president of the United States, said on Thursday that he would “love” seeing Russia join the G7, calling its isolation a “mistake.”
Trump even expressed confidence in Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the Ukraine war while signing new administrative directions, implying that he believes Putin is ready to negotiate. His remarks come as part of the conflict’s ongoing political work.
” Would love to own Russia again in G7, it was a mistake to push Russia out”, Trump said, according to a record by Reuters.
Trump also mentioned the possibility of holding a conference with Chinese President Xi Jinping again” things settle down.”
On Wednesday, Trump held a “lengthy and very successful” telephone conversation with Putin, during which they agreed to start negotiations to end the war in Ukraine “immediately”, according to Trump.
Both leaders acknowledged that” the time has come to work up,” and the Kremlin confirmed that the visit lasted 1.5 hours. Trump also contacted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to explain the way forward for harmony after the talk.
Following its annexation of Crimea, Russia was expelled from the Group of Seven ( G7 ) in March 2014. Although its membership was always permanently suspended, G7 members have frequently discussed the possibility of regaining Russia over the past ten years.
