One of the oldest and largest Egyptian American Baptist churches, based in Alexandria, Virginia, ended hosting its annual Christmas efficiency at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts due to new authority by the Trump administration.
” We believe that the new leadership’s opposition to the Kennedy Center’s long-standing tradition of honoring creative expression across all backgrounds is misaligned with our unwavering commission to claim and process the revolutionary and heroic love of Jesus, to seek justice, to market equality, to embrace the gift of diversity, and to care for all of creation”, the church’s statement continued.
The statement read,” We are constantly looking into other ways to promote our testimony of the birth of Jesus Christ in the quality and prophetic history of the Black Church,” it said.
Issa Rae, the artist from HBO’s Insecure, even announced last year that she would be canceling a sold-out show at the Kennedy Center on March 16.
The table of the Kennedy Center was appointed last week by President Donald Trump. Ambassador Richard Grenell, who serves as Trump’s minister for specific operations, is his time executive chairman of the Washington, D. C., cultural center.
The Biden administration’s appointed directors for the table were dismissed, and producer Shonda Rhimes, the firm’s manager who was appointed by previous President Barack Obama, resigned from the table.
After looking into the theater’s finances, Grenell stated on Wednesday that the previous leadership had left the organization in a dire financial situation.

The Kennedy Center’s CFO informed me today about its financial situation. There is ZERO cash on hand, she informed me. And ZERO in reserves. And there is a crisis associated with delayed maintenance. For the past months they’ve been digging into the DEBT RESERVES”, Grenell said on X.
” We must fix this great institution. The people working hard at the Nation’s premier performing arts center deserve better – and so do all Americans”, he added.
