According to new state data released on Monday, the number of unlawful immigrants who were detained entering the United States from Mexico in January quickly decreased as a result of the following Trump administration’s crackdown on the southern border.

” From Jan. 21 through Jan. 31, 2025, the number of U. S. Border Patrol apprehensions along the southwest border dropped&nbsp, 85 % &nbsp, from the same period in 2024″, U. S. Customs and Border Protection said in a press release Monday morning, pointing to the days since President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

CBP attributed the drop to the country’s” no longer catching and releasing illegal creatures into the U.S. S”.

In a statement, CBP stated that it is utilizing lawful authorities to make every possible effort to place illegal aliens in confinement and have them promptly evacuated from the country. ” In simple terms, improper creatures are being arrested, detained, and then quickly removed”.

In total, national Border Patrol agents stationed at the southern boundary intercepted 29, 116 illegal immigrants in January, over from more than 47, 000 in December 2024 and upwards of 124, 000 in January 2024.

The next day detention at the southern boundary fell below next season’s 29, 116 number was in May 2020, at the top of coronavirus shutdown steps when only 21, 593 unlawful immigrants were encountered.

Since November 2024, the number of illegal immigrants who have been detained at the country’s borders has decreased, and this amount has decreased even further after Trump became president. The president’s campaign promised to stop illegal immigration and carry out the “largest-ever” imprisonment activity in national story.

Borders king Tom Homan spoke with reporters in Washington two weeks ago, and he reported that the number of more than 2,000 arrests per day for the majority of the drop has decreased to less than 500 per day borderwide.

Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks &nbsp, announced&nbsp, earlier this month that the number of apprehensions at the northern, southern, and coastal borders was down 91 % compared to the same time last year.

As late as Monday, Homan claimed that only 226 illegal immigrants had been detained in the previous 24-hour period.

Arrests peaked at 250, 000 global in December 2023. Three and a half decades after the Biden administration reversed the guidelines of the first Trump administration, the figures had been almost half as a result.
