The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops filed a complaint against the Trump administration on Tuesday night for withholding millions of dollars in revenue that support the USCCB’s vision of providing comfort and transfer to asylum immigrants. &nbsp,

The federal government has allocated$ 65 million to the USCCB for fiscal 2025″ for the immediate physical needs and inclusion of refugees into their new areas,” but on January 24 the Trump administration stopped making payments to the agency. The event currently owes$ 11.6 million to its” subrecipients that it is unable to refund” and has received$ 13 million in unpaid payouts.

There are now more than 6, 700 asylum-seekers in their 90-day intermediate period&nbsp, delegated to USCCB’s attention.

According to a backup of the complaint obtained by the Washington Post,” the government is attempting to pull the rug out of under USCCB’s plans by halting funding,” it states. &nbsp,

The lawsuit, filed in the U. S. District Court in the District of Columbia, named the State Department, the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, and the Department of Health and Human Services as plaintiffs. &nbsp,

Following a letter from the State Department on January 24 that instantly suspended funding for foreign aid plans until a thorough review was carried out, the financial aid was discontinued. But, USCCB provides domestic help to asylum-seekers. &nbsp,

The meeting suddenly finds itself unable to carry out its work in order to care for the thousands of refugees who were welcomed into our nation and placed under the treatment of the USCCB by the state after being granted legal status, according to Archbishop Timothy Broglio, chairman of the USCCB. &nbsp,

After Vice President JD Vance accused the USCCB of profiting from provincial government money used to assist asylum seekers, the funding was cut. &nbsp,

Are they concerned about humanitarian issues when the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops receives more than$ 100 million to help them resettle illegal immigrants? Or do they really care about the bottom line?” On January 26, Vince said on Face the Nation. &nbsp,

But, according to the petition, USCCB claims to receive more funding than it receives from the federal government for aiding asylum seekers. &nbsp,

The complaint claims that USCCB spends more on migrant settlement each year than it receives in federal funding, but it cannot continue its programs without the millions of dollars that provide the foundation for this private-public partnership.

According to The Washington Examiner, USCCB received more than$ 129 million in funding from government programs to assist immigrants and unaccompanied migrant children in 2023. However, the business spent more than$ 130.5 million, leaving it in the dark when it comes to spending on asylum-seekers. &nbsp,

While USCCB ended 2023 with a$ 35.3 million increase in net resources, a majority of these resources come with “donor limits”, meaning that they are earmarked for a specific goal. &nbsp,

The petition comes after another one was filed last year against the Trump presidency by 27 religious institutions, alleging that the administration had violated First Amendment rights by conducting emigration raids close to places of worship.
