As fun as it is hearing the stories of weeping” job legal workers” (unaccountable officials ) dismissed from their make-work work by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency effort, these individuals have every right to be angry. Their indignation is, nevertheless, misplaced.
This week, a particularly entertaining episode of The New York Times ‘” The Everyday” podcast featured countless bureaucrats describing their emotional turmoil as a result of just losing their jobs. One man said it was his “dream work” to function as a politician that, “you’re a member, and that’s the best thing that you can do”. Speak about an underachiever.
But one of them said he felt “betrayed”. This week on CNN, a former Department of Education staff said the same item.
In all honesty, they have every reason to believe that, but they weren’t betrayed by Musk, President Trump, or the people who put them in place to do what they’re doing. They were lied to by an infinite series of persons predating 2025, both Republicans and Democrats, who had no ideal telling people they were being given a lasting, taxpayer-funded work with the federal government. And that’s to say nothing of the indefensible wages, benefits, and pension packages with small efficiency requirements.

I’d be mad, too. Some incredibly heartbreaking tales of migrants who spent all of their money to arrive in their country, had nothing left, and were then turned down. No one is to blame for that, but the previous administration, which was led by Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, had no business promoting entry to anyone and everyone who cared to cross the southern border. They were given false hope by people who couldn’t guarantee anything.
In America, there are no guarantees outside of the right to vote as a citizen. Who we elects to uphold the Constitution and carry out our wishes is at our discretion for everything else. We elected a president in November who promised to close the southern border to the uninvited and right-size a federal government that everyone is aware is rife with corruption, waste, and fraud. It wasn’t done maliciously. It was made in response to the careless, corrosive decisions of the past, which resulted in too many undesirable outcomes, such as an unaccountable bureaucracy and a servant class of exploited laborers who were resistant to the will of the people.
That anyone gained from these prolonged tragedies is a tragedy in and of itself. Many of them, maybe most, had no idea that they were participating in some very big problems. That’s unfortunate, but it doesn’t mean the problem should remain.
They should be mad because they were deceived. They simply need to consider the best course of action and who actually betrayed them.
