Meghan Markle has again found herself at the center of a major controversy after she unveiled a new name and logo of her old American Riviera Orchard brand. Turns out that like the previous name, the new name ‘As Ever’ is stolen from a small New York-based vintage clothing company. And the logo featuring a palm tree and two birds is exactly the emblem of a small Spanish town, Porrers, its mayoress Xisca Moral claimed. Both entities claimed that they are too small to sue the Duchess of Sussex.
As Possibly: ‘ We will not transform our name ‘
NYC clothes manufacturer As Always claimed to have been informed that a predecessor brand had been revealed, and that their business has no affiliation with that. The company’s chairman, Mark Kolski, said he launched his company in 2017 and the company is based in New York and New Jersey. ” I’m a very small business, it’s a family-run function. I’m basically a one-man brand”, he said. ” This new opportunity is funded by Netflix,” the statement goes. Even if I wanted to do something, he continued,” I don’t think I have the behemoth of lawyers and money that are behind this.”
Kolski claimed that despite not having a logo on the name, he had a common legislation right to use the name because he’s been using it for eight years and didn’t alter his brand’s name for Meghan.
As Ever’s branding even stolen?
Mayoress Xisca Mora said the city’s royal coat of arms times up to 1370 and is a part of the city’s cultural identity. The duchess chose the same icon for her brand, according to the mayoress, which was a little surprising. ” They are the same, except the animals are a little different and they used different colors, but they are almost identical”.
We don’t like our coat of arms being used, we want them to take the logo, the mayor said,” but we don’t like it because this has given our once-unknown town some attention in just a couple days.”
A smaller town council like ours is not in a position to battle against the English king, and it is complicated and expensive to sue for theft.
What happened to American Riviera Orchard?
According to the US Patents and Trademark Office, businesses are unable to mark physical locations. Meghan Markle gave a brief overview of what has happened so far as she revealed the new name for her product. She claimed that Santa Barbara’s name, American Riviera, was a nickname that she first liked but which restricted her to items made in the area.
” Next Netflix came on, not just as my companion in the present, but as my companion in my company, which was great. So I thought about it, and I’ve been waiting for a time to discuss a title that I had secured in 2022, and this is the time, and it’s called As Ever”, Meghan said.
