EXCLUSIVE: Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has appointed State Department personnel to perform immigration enforcement tasks, expanding the share of federal workers who can work with President Donald Trump’s mass deportation efforts.
The letter, obtained first by the Washington Examiner, authorized special agencies within the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service to perform the functions of an immigration officer, including “investigating, determining the area of, and arresting, any alien who is in the United States in contravention of the Title 8, Book 12 or rules issued thereunder” and “enforcing any requirements of such statutes or regulations”.
The Department of Homeland Security will use every tool and resource at its disposal to encircle unlawful immigrants and smuggle them out of our nation under President Trump. Noem said in a speech to the Washington Examiner on Wednesday that the health of Americans comes first.
According to DHS, the State Department will determine whether employees receive special training in how to take out immigration protection as immigration officials. The State Department did not respond to a request for comment.

Noem had made an announcement on February 10 that she wanted IRS employees to assist in “rounding up legal illegal aliens for imprisonment.” That vision may be conducted inside the United States, not at the borders.
Noem said in a blog on X at the time that” I have requested that Biden’s 87, 000 IRS officials help citizens save money by helping ICE rounded up legal illegal aliens for deportation.”
Noem requested in a letter from Treasury Department Secretary Scott Bessent that the organization communicate its people with her organization, which is in charge of ICE and border agencies.
