According to an Instagram post, girls can show an emergency room it’s a “miscarriage.”
Northeastern University’s student club recently shared a creative on social media warning students to stay to specialists if they are experiencing side effects from an abortion.
The tips raised red flags for one pro-life OB-GYN.
” Pregnancy drugs have considerable threats, with 1 in 25 people visiting the crisis room after taking them according to the FDA’s label”, Dr. Donna Harrison, director of research at the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, told The College Fix.
In a recent email, she wrote that it’s important for anyone trying to support women’s sexual health not to be cynical about these risks, including by telling them to stay to ER employees that they are having a pregnancy when they are actually experiencing complications from pregnancy drugs.
The graphic was posted on Instagram by Northeastern SHARE, a student club that promotes “reproductive justice” and” sex positivity”. A network of pro-abortion young adults across the country, Planned Parenthood Generation Action, is a chapter of SHARE.
The graphic, ( pictured ) which The Fix observed Feb. 7 on the club’s Instagram stories, states,” If a person needs to go to the hospital, they can say they are having a miscarriage. There’s no way for medical experts to tell the difference”.
These instructions were provided shortly after a different club photo showing” How people self-manage abortions using pills” was posted.
The images also include the phone number for a” Miscarriage and Abortion Hotline” along with the” Self-Managed Abortion, Safe and Supported” website, which supports the “rights of people” to access” safe abortion”.
On the club’s social media page, neither of the images can be seen. Instagram Stories posts typically only appear for 24 hours.
Both images came from a longer series of Instagram posts by Renee Bracey Sherman, author of” Liberating Abortion” and founder of We Testify, a pro-abortion organization supporting “people who have abortions” and amplifying the voices of “abortion storytellers”.
Sherman’s posts, which are still public, describe how to” self-manage abortions” using mifepristone and misoprostol up to 12 weeks of pregnancy.
At 12 weeks, an unborn baby has developed a heart, spinal cord, toes, and limbs, according to the Mayo Clinic’s webpage about fetal development.
In Sherman’s post, it states that “legally risky” abortions can be “legally risky,” and that women have been detained for” taking abortion pills on their own,” right after the one about going to the emergency room.
Other posts in her abortion how-to series state there may be “very uncomfortable symptoms” such as nausea, dizziness, and vomiting but reassures the viewer this means” the medication is working”. Another post in the series details signs that a woman should seek medical attention while a woman bends over in pain as she uses the restroom.
The final graphic, which depicts two women sitting together, is written as” Everyone loves someone who had an abortion,” and reads” Everyone loves someone who had an abortion.”
Sherman’s posts appear to attribute the information to the World Health Organization, however, none mention a specific webpage or article by the WHO.
Two emails sent to her organization asking if a medical professional had examined the information in her posts and how she would respond if questions about the advice posing a risk to women were not responded to.
The Fix also reached out to the Northeastern club and university’s media relations department twice in the last two weeks to inquire whether the club or campus health center offers assistance to students who have negative experiences with the abortion pill. Neither responded.
The Boston University started this month, according to The Fix, by providing abortion pills to students through its campus health center.
A” Medical Abortion Launch Party” was held on February 10th as part of the Northeastern SHARE club’s celebrations. The event featured crafts and an “autonomy themed” open mic.
The pro-abortion club has also organized other events like a condom night where attendees could learn about” colors” and “flavors.” According to a recap post for 2024 on Instagram, the organization distributed more than 512 Plan B emergency contraceptives and 1,500 condoms last year.
Dr. Harrison of the American Association of Pro-Life OB-GYNs expressed concern that free access to abortion mediation will have unintended consequences for college students in an interview with The Fix.
Both of which are instances that have occurred, Harrison said,” It would also allow people to obtain abortion drugs who plan to coerce pregnant women to take them against their will or even poison them without their knowledge.”
She told The Fix,” Women deserve better than to be exposed to this kind of abuse and serious medical complications.”
