The U. S. Senate confirmed Kash Patel as President Donald Trump’s director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI ) on Thursday. Following the confirmation hearing, Patel pledged to “rebuild” the FBI and create it something that” the American people can become happy of.”
Patel was approved by a ballot of 51 to 49, according to Fox News. The outlet noted that Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky. ) voted in favor of Trump’s FBI pick, while Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine ) and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska ) voted with the Democrats against Patel.
Following the Senate Judiciary Committee’s voting earlier this month to expand his election to a whole Senate voting, the Senate voted 51 to 47 earlier on Thursday to invoke cloture and begin two hours of conversation on Patel’s election.
Prior to Patel’s confirmation vote on Thursday, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S. D. ) said,” I look forward to working with Mr. Patel to restore the integrity of the FBI and get it focused on its critical mission”.
Thune argued that the next FBI director “needs to concentrate on bringing down politics so that the FBI can uphold the Constitution, enforce the law, and stay Americans healthy.”
In a Thursday post on X, formerly Twitter, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill. ), the top Democrat member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote,” Kash Patel is a dangerous extremist who will use the FBI to retaliate against his and Trump’s political enemies. Senate Republicans may immediately regret this decision.
According to Fox News, Durbin’s statement comes after Patel pledged during his confirmation reading that” there will be no democratization at the FBI” and that” there will be no punitive behavior” under his command.

Following Thursday’s voting, Patel released a statement, saying,” I am honored to be confirmed as the seventh Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Thank you for your unrelenting trust and support, Attorney General Bondi and President Trump.
” The British people deserve an FBI that is clear, guilty, and determined to justice”, Patel added. Our justice system’s politicalization has eroded people trust, but it is ending now. As Director, my goal is simple: reshape the FBI and make great officers good cops.
Patel pledged to “rebuild” the FBI so that” the British citizens may be glad of it.” He even warned anyone who might consider affecting Americans, saying,” We will kill you over in every part of this world”.
