US President Donald Trump has stated that while the country is committed to ending the Russian-Ukraine battle, he is becoming frustrated with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy because he has no “been willing to take this opportunity.”
Waltz’s comments suggest that Trump and Kyiv are at a higher level as a result of their telephone conversations and meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Waltz stated at a press conference on Thursday that Trump is focused on halting the conflict. ” His ( Trump’s ) goal is to bring this war to an end”, Waltz said. He claimed that Trump thinks it is time for Ukraine to take peace agreements really and described the ongoing fights as” World War I-style ground battle.”
Waltz also criticized Zelenskyy’s position, claiming that the Russian president had missed an opportunity to put an end to the conflict.
President Trump is extremely irritated with President Zelenskyy because he hasn’t agreed to take this chance that we have given him, he said. ” I think he gradually will get to that place, and I hope so extremely quickly”, Waltz added.
US anger over the cost of conflict
Beyond conversations, Waltz elaborated problems over the financial strain on the US in supporting Ukraine. Waltz argued that it is intolerable that the United States and its citizens continue to bear the cost of both the Ukrainian and European wars. He urged Nato allies to make more money, noting that a third of them have also never kept their commitments to defense investing.
Trump has echoed these emotions, arguing that the US has spent$ 200 billion more than Europe on the war. He thinks Ukraine should accept responsibility for its potential rather than concentrate on US assistance alone, he says.
US-Russia deals and Ukraine’s lack
Waltz even confirmed that discussions are ongoing between the Trump administration and Russia to find harmony solutions. ” We only had our ancient deals, mediated by our excellent friend and partner—Saudi Arabia”, he said. ” We sat, for the first time in centuries, with the Russians and talked about the way forward with peacefulness”, Waltz added.
However, these meetings have sparked censure, as Ukrainian authorities were not included.
Without the presence of Ukraine or German staff, Trump’s team, which includes Trump’s secretary of state Marco Rubio and special minister Steve Witkoff, met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Zelenskyy and Western leaders have expressed concern over this view, fearing it had side Ukraine’s objectives.
In recent days, both leaders exchange strong words, which has caused a growing tension between Trump and Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy was recently accused of mismanaging US assistance and described as a “dictator without votes” by Trump. In response, Zelenskyy claimed Trump was spreading” Russian-made disinformation”, AP reported.
Despite the conflicts, Waltz maintained that Trump’s focus remains securing harmony. ” His purpose here is to provide this war to an end, phase”, he reiterated.
