Jet-engine maker , Pratt &, Whitney , announced Thursday that it had obtained a three-year contract worth up to$ 1.5 billion for more work on F119 engines, which power the , U. S. Air Force ‘s , F-22 fighter jets.
The agreement will “improve eagerness” and lower prices for more than 400 F119 vehicles that have flown more than 900, 000 days, according to authorities at , Pratt &, Whitney, which has species in , East Hartford , and , Middletown. According to them, the firm has now reduced F119 costs through a program that improves maintenance and increases the engine’s performance and lifespan.
” The F119’s preparation and reliability levels have never been more significant, and we are improving both while lowering life fees”, said , Emily Albertelli, chairman of military vehicles at , Pratt &, Whitney, in a written statement. ” We are committed to helping our , U. S. Air Force , consumer keep the F-22’s fight edge”.
F119s you soar above 65, 000 legs and maintain hypersonic speeds without afterburners, according to business leaders.
While , Pratt &, Whitney , is the engine dealer for the F-22s,  , Boeing , and , Lockheed Martin , are the fighter jets ‘ airplane companies.  , Lockheed Martin’s firms include , Stratford-based aircraft maker , Sikorsky.
Next year,  , Pratt &, Whitney , secured a$ 1.3 billion deal for website updates for F-35 fighter jet.
Among other recent developments,  , Pratt &, Whitney , announced last month that it would create a small number of cuts. It did not specify the amount of work breaks or share how many, if any, of the nearly 11, 000 employees who work at the features in , East Hartford , and , Middletown , may be affected by the reduction.
At the same time, the business is dealing with some work anger in , Connecticut. Several hundred employees who are members of the , International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers , coalition gathered on , Jan. 3 , outside the , Middletown , grow to rally what they said were paid layoffs imposed by the business during that week.
IAMAW members ‘ current three-year contract expires on , May 5. Early April is when talks between the union and the company are expected to begin.
