Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel was prepared to continue fighting in the Gaza Strip “at any time” a day after the nation halted the transfer of Arab prisoners while required as part of a peace deal.
Speaking at a ceremony for combat soldiers, Netanyahu said,” We are prepared to resume severe battle at any time, our functional programs are set”.
” In Gaza, we have eliminated most of Hamas’s planned causes, but let there be no question– we will complete the battle’s objectives completely– whether through dialogue or by other means”, he added.
The latest peace, which commenced on January 19, brought a considerable pause to over 15 months of intense fight in the Israeli place, AFP reported.
The first step of the peace concludes in early March, but discussions for the later period, intended to completely end the conflict that began with Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, have certainly commenced.
In exchange for six Israeli hostages released by Hamas militants in Gaza, Israel was scheduled to release more than 600 Palestinian prisoners on Saturday.
Netanyahu announced the prisoner release delay until Hamas stops performing what he called “humiliating ceremonies” during Israeli hostage releases.
Hamas criticized Israel on Sunday for putting an end to the Gaza truce after the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Bassem Naim, a senior Hamas official, stated in a statement that the “enemy government is acting rampantly and exposing the entire agreement to grave danger” by postponing the release of our Palestinian prisoners in accordance with the phase one ceasefire agreement.
