Russian consul explosions hit Marseille on Monday, according to the Russian foreign ministry, marking them as the “hallmarks of a criminal attack.”
According to TASS, Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Consulate General in Marseille,” the blasts have all the hallmarks of a criminal attack.”
However, the government reported that an explosive system detonated outside the Russian Consulate in Marseille, coinciding with the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
A subsequent device was thrown, according to officials, but it did not explode, necessitating the intervention of a bomb disposal specialist.
Due to national authorities laws prohibiting people recognition, the incident’s perpetrator escaped from the scene, prompting an inspection, according to an official who spoke privately. The suspect’s identity and the probable causes of the attack have not been revealed by the authorities.
Russia pressed for a thorough investigation into the bombings at its Marseille embassy.
” We demand ( from France ) exhaustive and prompt measures to investigate, as well as steps to strengthen the security of Russian foreign missions”, Zakharova added.
The city’s event in southern France marked the third-year celebration of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Prior to this report, French media outlets had been informed that firefighters were present at the scene of an explosion that occurred close to the embassy.
