Following a violent cross-border fight that left at least 22 individuals missing, Kenya has increased surveillance along its border with Ethiopia. Although not much information is known about the event, officials claim that it involved armed people.
Kipchumba Murkomen, the interior minister of Kenya, confirmed that they are working with African authorities to find the lost people.
According to Turkana state government Jeremiah Lomorukai, crime reportedly broke out between African and African sailors on Saturday near the Omo valley.
Local leaders, quoted by news organization AP, even reported that 15 ships disappeared during the fight.
A Kenyan group made up of Turkana North assistant county commissioner George Orina, who claimed they were unable to reach the scene and therefore made the decision to seek out information from survivors.
” But far, 16 vessels have been accounted for, 1 weapons and 1 motorcycles, Orina said, adding that 22 people, including fishing and herders are also missing.
Before we resume functions on Monday, we left brain luggage for the deceased in case any were discovered.
According to media outlet Nation, the Kenyan Red Cross was likewise present to offer emotional support to victims.
Both the Dassanech and the Turkana communities in Kenya have much engaged in financial activities like pastoring and fish. However, the area has a record of cross-border conflicts, including regular animal raids. Assault attackers frequently retreat into African place, making security operations challenging, despite Kenya having deployed more police reservists to maintain order.
In response to the most recent hostilities, Murkomen announced plans to set up a proper frontier post where all visitors to Kenya will go through security checks.
