Joey Reid’s day at MSNBC has abruptly come to an end. The democratic system has cancelled her 7 pm present, The ReidOut, as part of a sweeping shake-up led by its new leader, Rebecca Kutler.
Reid, a frequent guest on MSNBC and a vocal critic of US President Donald Trump, will resign this week for the next time. Her gambling may be replaced by a fresh screen display co-hosted by Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders-Townsend, according to The New York Times.
Although sources claim the choice is a result of a broader overhaul under Kutler, who took over the system earlier this month, MSNBC has never made any public comments on it. The adjustments are necessary as MSNBC adjusts its software strategy in the face of shifting social dynamics and declining ratings.
Reid, 56, has been with MSNBC for over a decade, starting as a trip number in 2016 before taking over the 7 am casino in 2020. She was well-known for her enthusiastic remarks and harsh criticism of Trump and his Republican followers.
However, her scores have struggled. Nielsen Media Research revealed that in the weeks following Trump’s re-election, Reid’s viewers dropped by almost half, portion of a broader decline in MSNBC’s nighttime market. She apparently had to take a steep give cut from her$ 3 million annual salary in December to keep her job.
Reid has also been at the heart of discussion. A number of racist blog comments from her previous resurfaced in 2017 in which she criticized gay marriage and propagated conspiracy theories. She initially claimed that her blog had been compromised, but she later apologized and said,” I honestly do not think I wrote those nasty things because they totally alienate me.”
Despite the reaction, MSNBC stood by her at the moment, calling the content” not indicative of the partner and friend we’ve known”.
Kutler, a previous top CNN executive, is making another bold movements at MSNBC. Alex Wagner’s 9 pm display is also being axed, with Rachel Maddow returning to five times a week for the second 100 times of Trump’s subsequent management. One of the midnight games, which was previously held by former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, is expected to take over during the week.
Kutler has made it clear that MSNBC is entering a new era, particularly as it prepares to become spun off into a separate publicly traded company along with other Comcast cable systems. Plans are currently afoot to create a fresh Washington commission, with big hires expected in talent, newsgathering, and glad strategy.
Joy Reid’s fire has drawn combined emotions. Republicans celebrated the withdrawal of The ReidOut, calling it” great riddance”, while democrats expressed disappointment over the decision.
