Germany’s leading conservative group, headed by Friedrich Merz, secured success in the national vote, strengthening Ukraine’s place within the EU’s largest state whilst raising hopes for economic recovery after decades of problems.
Merz continued to hold his firm attitude on Monday despite concerns over extended economic stagnation and large-scale movement.
” None of us wants to close the frontiers”, said Merz, who is expected to become the country’s next president, during his first post-election media event.
” But we need to defend our territories better. We may regain power over those who come into our state”, he added.
Despite the apparent decline in American interest in Western interests under the Trump presidency, Merz reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining good US relationships.
” If those who really do not really create’ America First,’ but nearly’ America Alone ‘ their motto prevail, then it will be hard”, he said.
” But I remain hopeful that we will achieve in maintaining the transatlantic partnership, he continued.
He warned that if this marriage deteriorates, it will also hurt America.” This relationship will also be to the disadvantage of Europe.
In the 630-seat Bundestag, Merz’s liberals secured 208 tickets, AfD obtained 152, whilst SDP declined to 120 and Greens to 85. The Free Democrats failed to achieve the required 5 % threshold for representation.
The Left group secured 64 chairs, whilst the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance fell short of the 5 % condition.
The vote occurred seven weeks ahead of schedule following the dissolution of Scholz’s alliance in November, ending a three-year expression marked by internal problems.
