In infraction of UN prohibitions, North Korean crew were employed by 12 Chinese fishing vessels in the south of the Indian Ocean between 2019 and 2024, and many people suffered abuses, including being trapped at sea, according to a report released by the Environmental Justice Foundation on Monday. The use of Northern Korean team would violate UNSC Resolutions 2017, which mandated that people refrain from issuing work permits to North Koreans and return all remaining North Koreans by the end of 2019.
