Donald Trump, the leader, made no secret on Monday that the United States was upending international politics despite a private appeal from French President Emmanuel Macron.

After the Trump administration turned its foreign policy around by negotiating with Russia while excluding Western officials and Ukraine from peace talks, Macron became the first Western leader to attend the White House. When Macron visits Trump at the White House on Thursday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will carefully observe on Macron’s shoes.

Macron traveled to Washington in an effort to address Trump’s “electroshock” to Europe and persuade him never to deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin only to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Trump made it clear at a press event that he had no use for former President Joe Biden‘s policies against international policy.

My administration is significantly abiding by the foreign legislation principles of the prior leadership and, to be honest, the history. I ran into a dumb international policy establishment, and it was their carelessness that caused many, many people to die,” Trump said, along with Macron.

The president reiterated that, despite his recent opinions regarding the war in Ukraine, the goal of Monday’s appointment was to work toward an “end” to the “horrible” conflict, declaring that he wants his “legacy” to be that of a “peacemaker”.

Macron has a long story with Trump, as he took office just weeks after taking the oath of office for his first name in 2017. Unlike many of his recent Western counterparts, Macron has a long story with him.

” I’m going to tell]Trump]: ‘ You can’t be weak with President Putin. That’s not who you are, it’s never your brand, it’s not in your curiosity”, Macron said ahead of his trip to Washington.

Following the 2024 election, Macron hosted Trump there as well, according to the president’s leading remarks during his media event.

” Five years later, you had it up, and it was, they say, more lovely than it was before. So I think that’s a great accomplishment that was not easy”, Trump noted.

Macron repeatedly cited previous lessons he’d learned from handling the president on display during his trip on Monday, including repeatedly referring to him as” Dear Donald” throughout his remarks. He even shared numerous awkward handshakes with Trump.

The initial test of Trump’s renewed efforts to reform the United States ‘ marriage with NATO was on Monday’s stone, including his revived requirements for NATO members to improve their defense pledges.

Trump and his government are now putting more pressure on Ukraine than Russia to put an end to the battle, with the Macron meeting taking place. Prior to the G7 summit, it became apparent that the White House preferred for the post-meeting speech to no emphasize Ukraine’s support over Russia. After the U.S. accused Russia to remove the resolution, the U.S. joined Russia on Monday to vote against it, which was later rejected without U.S. support.

The leader declined to describe the logic behind the U. N. vote Monday evening, telling reporters basically,” It’s kind of self-evident”.

Trump’s Monday discussions on the sidelines of the conflict in Ukraine included his proposed stone of fresh tariffs on American trading partners. Along with the yet-to-be-finalized reciprocal tariffs for countries with which the U.S. sees a trade imbalance or imposes some sort of barrier taxes on the transfer of American goods, there are 25 % tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports. Trump likewise signed an executive memo on Friday that mandates that his business team create a fresh slate of solutions to nations like France that impose electric company taxes on American tech companies operating within their borders.

The president blatantly denied on Monday evening that his mutual plan would damage business relations with the European Union.

” Whatever they charge us, we’re charging them. But, it’s not a problem of increasing”, he told reporters. ” If they charge us 20 %, we charge them 20 %”.

” The American and European markets are really intertwined. Some$ 1.5 trillion in goods and services, and I know you’ve spoken about wanting to look at the balance of payments”, Macron acknowledged through a speaker at the press conference. I totally trust that a course has opened up after speaking with President Trump. We share the same beliefs. We are aware of what needs to get done.

Trump reacted quickly to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s announcement that the United States does not regard NATO membership for Ukraine to be” a practical outcome of a negotiated arrangement,” causing even some Republicans to contend that Trump was undermining Ukraine’s negotiating position before conversations had even begun.

Trump has continued to escalate his personal issue with Zelensky, prompting the Russian president to explain to him that his countryman lives in a “misinformation” room as a result of Hegseth’s repeated claims that Zelensky started the war even though Hegseth and various management figures, including national security adviser Mike Waltz, finally backed down.

Trump has also called on Zelensky to keep fresh votes, claiming he would be a “dictator” without doing so. Due to the conflict, Ukraine’s authorities suspended votes under the Ukrainian Constitution.

Zelensky announced a German Summit last week as he sought concessions from Trump’s deal to get rid of the rare earth minerals and that he would step down if Ukraine was allowed to join NATO.

That desire comes as leadership changes in Europe, as witnessed last weekend when Germany chose Friedrich Merz as its most likely successor prime minister following the victory of his conservative party in the national poll. Merz has vowed to help provide Europe “real freedom” from the U. S. as he prepared to scrape together a state.

In a split-screen time, as Trump met with the G7 and Macron, Putin had his own contact with Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which they recommitted to their” no limits” empire.

Trump has also met with Soviet rival Sergey Lavrov, Secretary of State Mike Waltz, and Middle Eastern special envoy Steve Witkoff, along with his rival.

In the aftermath of Hegseth’s remarks, the Lavrov discussions, and Vice President JD Vance’s target during the Munich Security Conference, the United Kingdom, and the European Union have announced new sanctions against Russia, while the U. S. chose Monday to declare new sanctions against Iran, in addition to a 30, 000-person British and European security force to Ukraine. &nbsp,

In fact, before Trump’s bilateral with Macron, the French president corrected his U. S. counterpart over his claims that” Europe is loaning the money to Ukraine” and” they’re getting their money back” .&nbsp,

” No, in truth, to be frank, we paid. We paid 60 % of the entire work”, Macron said.
