    Trump puts Education Department official on leave following dismal NAEP report card

    EXCLUSIVE — Only months after the world’s annual report card showed math and reading ratings falling to two-decade highs, the Trump administration took Peggy Carr, the director of the National Center for Education Statistics, on leave on Monday.

    Following a roughly 20-year job in the Assessment Division at NCES, former President Joe Biden appointed Carr to function as commissioner in September 2021. Carr has not been terminated, according to Department of Education officers, and will continue to receive give until a review of her work is completed.

    ” Today, the Department placed Peggy Carr, Commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES ) at IES who was appointed under the Biden Administration, on administrative leave”, a Department of Education spokesperson told the Washington Examiner. ” We applaud Peggy for her contributions to the Department of Education.”

    The 2024 National Assessment of Education Progress results were delivered with less than a quarter of Carr’s left.

    According to that report, eighth-graders ‘ reading and math scores were at their lowest level in more than 20 years, continuing a downward trend among individuals since the COVID-19 crisis. Fourth grade math scores improved somewhat while fourth grade reading scores decreased by 20 years.

    Carr told reporters after the report was made public last month,” The Nation’s Report Card is out and the news is no good.” ” Total, student success has never returned to pre-pandemic rates, so the battle continues”.

    President Donald Trump has made significant efforts to reverse previous Biden’s priorities in education, but he has not yet suggested a strategy to completely camera the Department of Education, as he had promised to do on the campaign trail.

    Linda McMahon, Trump’s choose to be the next director of knowledge, saw her election advance out of commission late last month along party lines.

    McMahon vowed to “reorient” the Department of Education during her assurance reading, and he claimed that Trump’s plan to completely screen the agency would need congressional approval.

An executive get directing the federal government to promote school alternative options when giving grants for education-related projects, an order forbid transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports, and an order directing the federal government to cancel any funding directed at schools that also require students to be vaccinated against coronavirus, are included in that list.

    Additionally, Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency have withdrawn dozens of Department of Education contracts, according to the Associated Press, while the Trump administration has already fired or suspended more than 100 career Department of Education employees.
