Elon Musk‘s statement that federal workers will be given” a minute chance” to respond to his order to justify their employment is likely to stoke a new wave of mistrust on Tuesday in the US government. Mussk’s alert came after Trump administration officials instructed federal employees not to listen to his weekend email requesting a summary of their accomplishments from the previous week.
However, some federal authorities instructed their employees to follow the rules, while others did not. The US workplace of personnel administration finally warned agencies that their employees may ignore the email as the Monday midnight deadline approached.
Musk, tasked to lead a dramatic reduction of the state, seemed undeterred. ” Theme to the discretion of the leader, they will be given another chance. Failure to respond a next time will result in termination”, he said on X later Monday.
Prior to the fresh OPM advice, President Trump told reporters Monday that employees who did not respond may be” kind of semi-fired”, adding to the confusion.
