DAMASCUS: Syria’s fresh interim president pledged on Tuesday to ensure the condition has a monopoly on arms at a national dialogue meeting on the country’s coming after Bashar al-Assad’s overthrow.
Ahmed al-Sharaa, whose Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham ( HTS ) led a rebel alliance that toppled Assad in December, also said he plans to establish a national dialogue conference during the country’s transition.
The conference, which was held at Damascus ‘ presidential palace, marks the start of a critical period for Syria’s upcoming government following years of bloody civil war.
Sharaa told the audience,” The unification of hands and their dominance by the condition is never a luxury but a commitment and an responsibility.”
” Syria is undivided, it is a perfect full, and its power lies in its unity”.
Sharaa has recently stated that the Kurdish-led forces may be incorporated into the federal army.
A Kurdish-led administration, whose de facto army, the Syrian Democratic Forces ( SDF), spearheaded the battle that defeated the Islamic State group jihadists in Syria in 2019 with US support, controls the swathes of north and northeast Syria.
Before discussions started, hundreds of attendees were spotted arriving for the meeting in footage captured by the SANA news agency’s official website.
The time leader stated that “over the previous two decades, we have worked on pursuing those who committed atrocities against Syrians.”
” We will work on forming a transitional justice system to regain women’s rights, maintain justice and, God willing, take criminals to justice”.
Following a thunder rude, a alliance led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham seized control of Syria on December 8. Sharaa, the Islamist team’s president, was named time president in January.
An interim state has been charged with managing matters until March 1, when a new state is set to be formed, reflecting” the variety” of the people, according to the new government.
Reforms
The organizing committee stated that transitional justice, the law, and organisational and economic reforms would be the main topics of the national dialogue conference.
Conversations would also be held on” Syria’s regional unity as well as people, personal and political rights”, the council said.
Recommendations may be issued at the end of the collecting,” which will serve as the basis for the legal charter, the economic personality ( of the country ) and the program to reform organizations”, it said.
HTS started as Syria’s past advertising of Al-Qaeda, but it cut ties in 2016.
Although it has lately sought to average its rhetoric and pledged to protect Syria’s spiritual and cultural minorities, it has been labeled as a criminal organization by some governments, including the United States.
Sharaa has stated that the national dialogue meeting will make it known that HTS’s dissolution may occur.
The rude that toppled Assad ended five years of his mother’s iron-fisted law.
Sharaa earlier this month predicted that the constitution’s rewriting may take two to three years and four to five years to organize elections in Syria.
Following his resignation, the new Palestinian leader has been given the task of creating an interval parliament.
