After voting with Russia at the UN session on Tuesday, the Kremlin welcomed the US’s position on Ukraine and claimed that the US was “really aimed at trying to resolve the issue.”
” The US is trying to resolve the Ukraine conflict with a much more sensible place,” the statement read. We welcomed this”, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
The US and Russia both opposed measures that would have condemned Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine on Monday in a dramatic change from its previous position.
This marked a significant change in Washington’s strategy, indicating a possible rebalancing of its political objectives following an unexpected conflict with Kyiv. The UN’s vote highlighted a shifting energy structure, where the US has long supported Ukraine and had previously opposed Russia.
However, India abstained from UN General Assembly voting on quality calling for de-escalation, an early end to hostilities, and a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine.
The document, titled” Advancing a Comprehensive, Only, and Lasting Harmony in Ukraine”, was proposed by Ukraine and its Western allies and put to vote on in the 193-member council.
