Gov. In addition to a new partnership with federal government, Kate Hobbs (D-AZ ) announced a new border security program in the Grand Canyon State.
A work pressure that included the Departments of Emergency and Military Affairs, Public Safety, and Homeland Security was established by the government on Tuesday. They may work toward preventing international criminal organizations from entering southern states.
Operation Desert Guardian, as Hobbs titled it, did partner local law enforcement with the federal government to fight crimes committed by legal organizations, identifying vulnerabilities in the frontier in Yuma, Pima, Santa Cruz, and Cochise counties, the country’s four counties along the Mexican border.
” I’m happy to build Operation Desert Guardian to fight the cartel, stop drug trafficking and human trafficking, and safe Arizona’s border”, Hobbs said in a statement. ” My management has been in contact with the federal government and local sheriffs about the Operation, its vital priorities, and our shared commitment to keeping offenders and medications out of Arizona’s areas”.
” I have collaborated successfully with the federal government on Task Force SAFE and collaborated with local law enforcement to provide essential border security support,” she continued.” I look forward to continuing to partner on our shared border security priorities.” I’m confident that Operation Desert Guardian will lead to a significant step in our ongoing efforts to secure the border.
The Democrat-run Hobbs ‘ decision to collaborate with the Trump administration on border security is another example of how Democratic state administrations have cooperated more than they did during Trump’s first term in office.
The governor of Arizona previously stated a willingness to work with the Trump administration, saying that she was looking forward to having discussions with the incoming president about Arizona’s needs, including border security, shortly after the election last year. She did note that she would” not tolerate actions that harm Arizonans, our communities, and, to be honest, divert resources from providing real security at our border.”
HOBBS IS THE FIRST DEMOCRAT IN 20 YEARS TO APPOINT JUSTICE TO ARIZONA SUPREME COURT
In a state where Trump won the election in November with a 5.5 % margin over former vice president Kamala Harris, Hobbs will face a difficult reelection campaign next year.
The Cook Political Report has labeled the 2026 election campaign in the Grand Canyon State as a” toss up.”
