The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the next target for workers reduces include the Labor Department, the Social Security Administration, and the General Services Administration. In a letter sent to GSA employees on Tuesday, acting executive Stephen Ehikian stated that the organization may get” conducting a Reduction in Force.”
Despite the government’s continued state breaks, DOGE has become increasingly antagonistic since the campaign began with Trump’s White House visit last month. After receiving a lot of vocal protest from protesters across the country, some Republicans have expressed anxiety and frustration over some of the drastic breaks.
However, President reaffirmed”>Donald Trump reiterated his support for DOGE initiatives on Wednesday by signing a second executive order that would encourage the government spend reductions. To work closely with the mind of each agency to pass DOGE’s cuts across the state, the executive order will create a” Expand group result” at each national agency.
The order states that” Each Agency Head may, with support as requested from the company’s DOGE Team Lead, construct a centralized technological structure within the organization to seamlessly document every payment made by the agency under each of the agency’s covered contracts and grants, as well as a small, written justification for each payment submitted by the agency employee who approved the payment.”
The GSA’s head of business is also instructed in the executive order to” send a strategy to the Director of the Office of Management and Budget for the attitude of government-owned real estate that the company has determined to be no longer needed” within 60 days of the Wednesday purchase.
Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA ) faced a bruising town hall in his home district, where several attendees expressed their outrage over DOGE’s government cuts. The initiatives DOGE has promoted have also faced a number of court challenges.
McCormick, who was under the impression the heated town hall was putting pressure on, stated earlier this week in a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he still supported the efforts but preferred to see DOGE work more slowly as it cuts.
” I think we’re just moving a little too fast”, McCormick said. We should conduct impact studies on each department as we go about doing it, and I’m confident we can do that. We’re moving really, really rapidly, and we don’t know the impact”.
McCormick also mocked those who lost their jobs in the federal government during a Thursday appearance on Fox and Friends. McCormick advised DOGE and Republicans to “be careful about messaging.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA ) responded to the outcry on Wednesday night on CNN’s The Source by praising many of the attendees as “paid protesters” and” Democrats who went to the events early and filled up the seats.”
” One Republican acknowledged they were his constituents”, Johnson said. ” That’s fantastic, OK, but they had Democrats come and fill the seats early, all right? This is an old playbook that they printed out and distributed, giving the impression that what is happening in Washington is unpopular.
Johnson claimed that polling results indicate that the public still holds a large following for DOGE and federal government cuts. A poll from Harvard CAPS-Harris earlier this week revealed that 77 % of voters believe a thorough analysis of government spending is required, and 83 % of voters prefer to see tax cuts cut to government spending.
In addition to DOGE’s immediate plans for additional property losses, another round of job cuts reportedly being planned in the coming days at various agencies.
TRACKING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S PERFORMANCE
The federal bureaucracy has been called back to in-office work as a result of the workforce’s and government property cuts. Returning to work has had a significant impact on the District of Columbia, with ridership reaching near-prepandemic levels according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s announcement earlier this week.
Local governments around Washington have established resources for displaced former government employees because the job status of troves of federal workers is uncertain. Gov. On Monday, Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-VA ) unveiled new resources for Virginia residents who have been affected by DOGE workforce cuts.
