Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of X, has reportedly been sleeping at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) headquarters in Washington, according to WIRED. Located inside the Eisenhower Executive Office Building—just steps away from the White House—the DOGE office has become Musk’s latest makeshift home.
At a new Alfalfa Club black-tie meal, Musk claimed he had been invited to stay at the White House’s traditional Lincoln Bedroom. However, the businessman chose DOGE office instead.
The’ sleeping-on-the-floor’ culture
Severe work habits are not new to Musk. During Tesla’s first problems, he reportedly slept on the shop floor, believing it demonstrated authority.
” This is important because if the crew thinks their chief is off there having a good time, drinking Mai Tais on a tropical area… they knew I was there, and that made a big variation”, Musk said in a 2022 interview with Ron Baron.
The same mindset fueled his acquisition of Twitter ( now X ). Musk sent employees a letter titled” A Fork in the Road” warning that only those who are prepared for long hours may live after acquiring the system in 2022. The order led to the withdrawal of 80 % of Twitter‘s workplace.
Musk tightens his hold on Washington
His latest move—literally setting up camp at a federal office—signals Musk’s deepening effect in national activities. His appearance may indicate an even greater force for control given that DOGE’s goal is to streamline government efficiency.
Is Musk’s choice to rest at DOGE headquarters a power walk, a symbolic sign, or just another situation of his famous workaholic tendencies? One thing is clear: When Elon Musk wants everything done, he doesn’t time out.
