
Idaho Gov. Brad Little , signed into law , a costs on Monday that demands a$ 300 maximum fine for low-level pot hands. It goes into effect this summer.
House Bill 7, which was sponsored by Nampa Republican Rep. Bruce Skaug, does raise the legal fine for possession of even a small amount of weed above that for almost all other misdemeanors in Idaho. Mandatory maximum penalties usually apply to more severe drug-related breaches, said Paul Armentano, assistant director of cannabis legalization lobbying group NORML, which stands for the , National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. Armentano claimed to be the only state in the United States that has a mandatory maximum fine for weed possession.
The Statesman previously reported that judges have the choice to implement a range of sanctions, including no fines, but that the sentences for offenses in Idaho typically amount to up to$ 1, 000 in fines and up to a time in prison. Plaintiffs are usually required to pay hundreds of dollars in addition to the court fees and charges associated with their situation, which are separate from the good.
