New York Governor Beginning in February, Kathleen Hochul signed legislation that bars doctors from holding accountable for giving pregnant women unsafe abortion pills. However, a recent letter from” thousands” of doctors warns Hochul that her attempt to force Empire State pharmacists to change the name of medical practitioners who prescribe medications like mifepristone and misoprostol with the name or address of their training risks people and should be rejected.
The American Association of Pro-Life OBGYNs ( AAPLOG ) wrote in a letter to Hochul that “disclosing doctors ‘ identities recklessly endangers the patients we’re supposed to serve.” It increases the dangers of mifepristone being prescribed via telehealth without in-person consultation, and the difficulties it poses may mean the difference between patient life and death.
New York, in addition to putting the lives of women and children on the line, is empowering providers to avoid putting patients through” clarity and accountability” rather than “obfuscation and barriers” in their practices.
When we write a prescription for a drugs, our responsibility as surgeons goes beyond simply writing the order for the treatment, the letter says. Patients deserve a physician who can assess their unique risks for a drug; for mifepristone, this evaluation necessitates an in-person discussion; they should accompany them throughout the course of care to ensure their productive and full treatment.
The bill was introduced just days after New York’s Democratic-majority legislature accusation of Dr. Margaret Daley Carpenter in Louisiana. The goals of the politicians and Hochul are to make it more difficult for states with pro-life privileges to impose their laws on pro-abortion states and doctors ‘ engagement, as they have repeatedly and publicly stated.
Louisiana charged Carpenter, the co-founder and co-medical director of the Abortion Coalition of Telemedicine, with prescribing pregnancy medications taken by a female small online in Louisiana. Additionally, Texas sued and assessed a fine to Carpenter for her part in sending the medication from more than 1500 miles away to a 20-year-old lady who had bleeding complications to the doctor.
According to research, the medication regimen Carpenter reportedly prescribed is to blame for , more than half of the world’s abortions , , but it is also known to cause side effects like bleeding, diarrhea, headache, nausea, and vomiting, as well as pain across the back, shoulders, chest, and abdomen. In some cases, the tablets are dangerous.
AAPLOG expressed concern that the New York rules” may lead to more dreadful cases,” citing examples of women like Amber Thurman, Candi Miller, and Alyona Dixon who experienced severe and even dangerous problems as a result of abortion pills.
This new legislation “adds time-consuming and potentially dangerous roadblocks to medical consultations that may be needed in the event of complications,” the notice continued. It makes doctors less visible to the patients they’re treating.
AAPLOG CEO Dr. Christina Francis reaffirmed in a statement that Hochul and her allies in the legislature” should rescind this dangerous law” if New York is” truly concerned about protecting women.”
Under Hochul’s watch and guidance, New York has invested millions of dollars in expanding its radical abortion regime by stockpiling abortion pills, creating legal loopholes for abortionists, and even sueing pregnancy centers that offer women who regret ingesting the life-ending drug.
