A , On Monday, a representative introduced policy in , Congress , to avoid similar incidents in the future. This comes just over a fortnight after the fatal collision of an , American Airlines , aircraft and aircraft, U.S. Army , Black Hawk helicopter near , Reagan National Airport, and a , Michigan .
His act would guide the Pentagon to investigate the feasibility of installing collision-avoidance techniques on all , U.S.  , military planes, according to U.S.  , Rep.  , Tom Barrett, a , Charlotte , Republican and former Army helicopter aircraft.
A feasibility study on the installation of an advanced security system known as Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast ( ADS-B) on military aircraft is also recommended in the bill’s conclusion.
The Black Hawk’s death might have been avoided if the airplane had used the same crash avoidance program as the airliner, and the two aircraft had been able to communicate in this way. In the fall that took place over the Potomac River on January 29 and killed 67 individuals, 67 of them were killed.
Both aircraft had need this system in place in order for it to function properly, according to Barrett in an interview.
The captain in both cockpits may receive an audio signal advising them which direction to move away from each other” to deconflict” if two aircraft are veering off in a risky direction. That just works if the system is installed on both plane.
The crash-collision systems are not now integrated into most military helicopters because they are not required for the combat-profile they were created to serve, according to Barrett. Price is another issue.
However, Barrett said,” The reality is that military aircraft are frequently operating in mingled air space with human aircraft.” ” I believe this would be a really significant part of redundancy that may help, maybe, would have prevented what transpired in , Washington, D. C.”
According to Barrett, he spoke with various military pilots, and it appears that most fixed-wing aircraft have the crash-avoidance system in place, but rotary-wing ones do not. He claimed that this is due to fixed-wing plane frequently landing and taking off from planes that are often used by civilian aircraft.
The National Transportation Safety Board   is scheduled to release its initial statement on its analysis of the , Jan. 29 , fall in the coming months.
Air traffic controllers advised the personnel onboard the Black Hawk helicopter to look for the journey, an American Airlines flight, and a Canadair Regional Jet immediately before the collision. The Black Hawk staff, who was wearing night vision glasses, acknowledged that the plane was in view.
However, according to investigators, audio recordings suggested the helicopter crew might not have seen the aircraft and might have misinterpreted another departing aircraft that had just left Runway 1.
The policy asks the Department of Defense and the Democratic Party to finish the viability review within 90 days after Barrett introduced it with Democratic , U.S.  , Rep.  , Jen Kiggins , of , Virginia. Former U.S. Navy helicopter aircraft Kimbgins
” It’s my hope that they will reveal a desire that I have to improve the safety and results of these airlines to the best that we can’t,” Barrett said.
According to a report from the Government Accountability Office, 85 soldiers died in vehicle accidents involving armoured vehicles between 2012 and 2019. Their costs is a rehash of the parliamentary effort to address this trend.
Barrett claimed that the energy even included a feasibility study before the necessary fixation was required.
