Democratic Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez ( NY ) is under fire for telling Elon Musk to “go back to South Africa” during a public address outside the HUD Department, in which she also questioned “what the hell” he is doing in the United States, according to Fox News.
” It was fascinating yesterday when I was watching a video of Elon Musk talking to someone and said the Chinese may be in China and the Italians may stay in Italy. My question to Elon Musk is, what the devil are you doing here in America?” Democrat Velazquez said late on Monday.
Velazquez was allegedly making a claim about an Elon Musk discussion from 2023 that democratic fact-checker Snopes deemed to be “false” in a report from Fox News.
Republicans quickly condemned Velazquez’s comment on societal media. Democrats were accused of adopting “nativism” and called her responses “unhinged” by critics. Both Bobby LaValley, the Rapid Response Director for House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Greg Price, the White House Rapid Response staff, posted their criticism on X.
Jeremy Carl, a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute, questioned why Velazquez appeared to merely like a” White immigrant,” drawing a line between her position on illegal immigration and her own.
On X, Carl posted,” Nydia Velasquez has finally found an expatriate she doesn’t like.” Certainly the tens of thousands of illegals in her city, but the greatest businessperson in the country, an immigrant, is a White refugee. Consider them when the remaining tells you who they are.
On X, Best Turn Strategies President Chris Barron wrote,” Imagine if any Republican said this about any liberal.”
Velazquez criticized Musk’s DOGE attempts, which she claimed were an attack on the” consciousness of our state,” during a rally with fellow Democrats outside the HUD tower.
This occurrence is in response to comments made by Democrat Rep. Marcy Kaptur last week about Musk’s commitment to the country because he has” really been around 22 times” as a member. Additionally, Kaptur criticized Musk for having membership in three nations.
