Elon Musk once again advocated out against sex change surgeries on Wednesday, calling them ‘harmful for mental health’.
Musk responded to a report from a study conducted by University of Texas scientists and published in the’ The Journal of Sexual Medicine’ that claimed that” those who underwent surgery were significantly more likely to have depression, anxiety, suicidal thinking, and substance use disorders than those who hadn’t undergone procedure.” The technology mogul reacted by saying that” sex change surgery heavily harms mental health” in his response.
Despite the fact that one of his natural kids, Vivian, is transgender, Musk has spoken out against gender-affirming surgeries, calling them “deeply wrong.” His strong opinions first emerged shortly after his girl formally declared she was transgender in 2022.
Vivian, who turns 18 soon after, signed legal documents to change her name and identity, making explicit claims in court records that she wanted to break up with her parents. She has since spoken boldly about her upbringing, blaming Musk for his lack of presence and severe care, and highlighting his criticism of her gay and romantic ancestry.
On the other hand, Musk claimed in a 2024 interview with conservative psychologist Jordan Peterson that he had “lost” Vivian because of what he termed” the woke mind virus.” Also, he added that he had used her dead name when he claimed that she had been “dead, killed by woke worldview.”
Vivian disputed Musk’s interpretation of their marriage and her identity in reply. She claimed that he “doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he just wasn’t it,” while also claiming that he had reduced her experiences to stereotypes and had given an misleading account of her career.
As X’s proprietor and one of the richest people in the world, Musk has used his position to support anti-transgender ideas, reducing the protections for transgender users on the platform, and putting a spotlight on those who oppose gender-affirming care in response to specific experiences and anti-trans position.
He attributes the gender transition of his daughter to his opposition to democratic values, citing this as the basis for his opposition to what he refers to as “wokeness.” Additionally, he relocated his businesses from California in protest of the state’s supportive laws that protect transgender individuals ‘ protection from non-consensual reporting to parents by schools.
