Over 300 individuals have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize this year, according to organisers on Wednesday, with officials claiming that they have put US President Donald Trump and Pope Francis forward for the prize.
The names of the candidates are kept private for 50 years, according to Nobel statutes, but they are one of the big names that were floated this year, along with original Nato main Jens Stoltenberg.
The Scandinavian Nobel Institute announced in a statement that the 338 votes totaling 244 people and 94 organizations.
That is a substantial increase over the 286 nominations received in the previous year, but it falls short of the 376 votes that were previously registered.
