A long-awaited restoration program for Gaza that Muslim leaders had suggested has been rejected by the Donald Trump-led administration, reaffirming its own vision for the region.
According to CNN, the White House maintains that US President Donald Trump backs a strategy that would turn Gaza into a “riviera” under US control.
White House national security council spokesman Brian Hughes said in a statement on Tuesday night that the latest proposal does not solve the reality that Gaza is now unsuitable and residents may fairly live in a territory covered in debris and old weapons.
” President Trump continues to pursue his goal of bringing Gaza back to its former self-dominance. We look forward to more discussions aimed at bringing peace and prosperity to the area,” Hughes continued.
The proposal, which is led by Egypt and is supported by Arabs, calls for Hamas to relinquish control to an interim administration until a reformed Palestinian Authority ( PA ) takes over as head of state. The Ancient framework, in contrast to Trump’s plan, would permit the remaining presence of almost 2 million Palestinians in Gaza, according to CNN.
In a speech in Cairo, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared that elections had been held in Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank, “if conditions are appropriate,” for the first time in nearly 20 years.
Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, has not yet formally expressed his vision for the future of Gaza, but he has backed Trump’s call for a “different Gaza.”
The$ 53 billion proposal from Arab countries aims to rebuild Gaza by 2030. Over 50 million tons of dust from Jewish assault and military bombardments will be removed in the first phase, as well as old weapons.
The program will be presented to Trump in the upcoming weeks, according to Jordanian leaders, though the degree of its local support is still unknown. Important figures from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were not present at the conference, despite the Arabs ‘ agreement to broaden Egypt’s plan. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the president of Algeria, boycotted the conference, calling it “monopolized by a limited and small group of Muslim countries” and citing “imbalances and shortcomings” as reasons for the boycott.
In addition to beach developments along Gaza’s Mediterranean coast, the plan calls for the structure of shopping centers, an international convention center, and an aircraft in five years. It acknowledges the difficulty of disarming the Gazan terrorist organizations, saying that “it can only be resolved, and yet ended forever, if its causes are identified by a clear horizon and a credible political process.”
President Trump made a promise in February that the country would take control of the Gaza Strip, destroy harmful weapons, distinct debris, and monitor economic development.
Trump said,” The US will get over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it,” at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. We’ll individual it, take responsibility for destroying all of the site’s dangerous unexploded bombs and other arms, and destroying the ruined structures. Create a form of financial growth that will provide the area’s residents with an endless supply of housing and employment.
The US leader continued,” I’m hopeful that this peace will be the start of a larger and more enduring serenity that will stop the violence and killings once and for all.” My administration has been working quickly to regain confidence in the alliance and repair American power throughout the region with the same goal in mind.
